I’m sure almost everyone has seen the local magazines that advertise the “Best of South Jersey”. These are the issues where the magazine reports which restaurants, gym, pizza parlor, spa or services offered by particular establishments are voted the best. They are even doing issues now where they select or announce the best doctor and lawyer. When you read any of these issues does anyone really think that those businesses or services or professionals selected are really the best? The magazines even state is some cases that those selected are the reader’s choice. Ever wonder how many readers, how many votes, and who voted for these choices? Do you know how the magazine collects the votes, or how someone submits their vote? Have you ever heard about a business having their employees fill out ballets selecting their employer as the best? Have you ever seen any business selected as the best of anything that didn’t advertise in that particular magazine? Have you ever voted??
What’s your thought; do you patronize the business or use the services of those businesses that the magazine selected or announces as the best? Better yet are these businesses really the best or are they just a selected few that know how to work the system or use a process to win. Somehow I really believe the best are overlooked in the process what do you think?

"Best of South Jersey" can be misleading until one realizes these choices are made by the most important critics, people who go to these establishments. You and me the public, which in my opinion are the only votes that should count. It's sort of like "American Idol", you may not agree but at least in the end there is a majority. I would be more likey to go to a place recommended by my peers as opposed to some advertising agency. Coke and Pepsi are supposed to be the "best"soda gauged by it's popularity and it is in my opinion a vile disgusting drink full of sugar and acid.
I used to work for a "best of" company in Woodbury NJ, and they made it mandatory for all of their employees to fill out at least 20 forms each, with names and info of neighbors and relatives for them. The receptionist sat for days, filling out the forms for hundreds of past customers. So they basically voted themselves into the "best of" category. So, can you trust the "best of"?
